Marlon Ochoa Denounces Prejudged Process and Alleges Political Persecution.
On Thursday, former electoral councilor Marlon Ochoa, who denounced irregularities in the 2025 presidential elections, stated that he will not appear before the Honduran National Congress for the impeachment trial against him.
He argued that the impeachment process will not be impartial and already has a predetermined outcome because it is being used by the Honduran right to cover up its electoral fraud in the Nov. 30, elections.
Ochoa does not recognize the legitimacy of those who have already determined his conviction. He maintained that appearing before the Legislature would amount to endorsing a biased process, which he described as a “brutal offense against Honduran democracy.”
The impeachment trial comes after months of systematic attacks and threats against Ochoa, driven by the same sectors that now seek to judge him.
Hours earlier, the Honduran Congress suspended Ochoa from his position as an electoral councilor and approved initiating impeachment proceedings against him for having denounced the fraud orchestrated by the right and pressure from President Donald Trump, who threatened to cut remittances if Hondurans did not vote in favor of National Party candidate Nasry Asfura.
Thanks to Ochoa’s actions within the National Electoral Council, Hondurans were able to learn about numerous irregularities that occurred during the 2025 presidential elections. These included manipulation of the Preliminary Electoral Results Transmission System and the improper use of biometric devices.
“I would rather carry for three years and nine months the persecution of the corrupt organized crime that stole the elections than live with the shame of having knelt before their henchmen,” Ochoa said, emphasizing that his stance responds to the obligation to tell the truth.
Ochoa also warned that behind the case against him is an attempt to reestablish the “narco-state” set up by former President Juan Orlando Hernandez, who was sentenced to a lengthy prison term by a U.S. court for drug trafficking offenses. However, thanks to a pardon granted by Trump, this far-right politician will return to Honduras in the near future.
Ochoa described the proceedings against him as an attack on the Honduran democratic institutions, while also criticizing the role of political sectors he accused of trying to control different branches of government, including the electoral body.
“The two-party system seized the Executive Branch and the National Congress, arbitrarily removed the attorney general and the chief justice of the Supreme Court. Now the attack is against the Electoral Branch,” he said, expressing confidence that Hondurans will assess the facts in all their dimensions.
